Nikkei Images is a publication that offers a rich exploration of the history, experiences, and contributions of ethnic Japanese (or Nikkei) in Canada.
Produced by the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, Nikkei Images has been published multiple times a year since 1996.
Through in-depth research and captivating storytelling, this publication delves into various aspects of nikkei heritage, shedding light on their cultural, social, and economic significance in Canadian society.
With emphasis on historical context, Nikkei Images delves into the struggles, triumphs, and resilience of the nikkei community throughout the years. From early immigration and settlement to the challenges faced during World War II, this publication provides a nuanced understanding of the Japanese Canadian experience, capturing both the hardships and the remarkable achievements that have shaped their identity.
Call for Writers
If you have stories related to Japanese Canadian history, culture, and arts that you'd like to preserve and share, we invite you to contribute. We are dedicated to capturing and documenting these narratives for future generations. Let's work together to ensure these significant stories are preserved and celebrated.
We welcome nikkei family and community story proposals for possible publication. Articles should range from 500 to 3,500 words and include high-resolution digital photographs with proper photo credits. The deadline for submissions for our next issue is January 15, 2027.
We appreciate all submissions. For more information or to submit your work, please contact Nichola Ogiwara, Communications Coordinator, at:
